 Speaking
Up and Speaking Out:
There is a great spiritual hunger in the world for the
kind of meaning that makes people believe that life is worth something
far more valuable than bottom line entries on myriad corporate
spreadsheets. Who better to figure out what that is but those of us with
enough time on our hands and enough life experience so that we can’t be
fooled with platitudes, clichés and doublespeak?
Once we get past the foibles that keep us focused on
the things that do not really matter in life and refocus on what does
matter, the whole world begins to take on an aura of wonder. It’s time
to turn the heat up on our politicians and our media who choose the
topics for public attention. For those of us who, because of economic
necessity during our “earning” years, have lived on borrowed opinion,
it’s time to pay it back. It’s time for those of us who’ve always
expressed strong opinions about subjects that we’ve never really
investigated to actually do the research or keep quiet, or better yet,
look it up and speak up. If inspiration and some kind of mindful
accomplishment for posterity do not precede our death, we must ask
ourselves why, then, did we live?
Sept-U participants on all sides of
the political divide have the opportunity to change the world by
insisting that media spotlights shine on issues that really need
attention.
